PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera capable of performing various kinds of film carrying control, especially, the film carrying control considering the display state of the VEI of an APS cartridge with a simple and inexpensive circuit and preventing such unexpected occurrence that the lock of a cartridge cover can not be released when the camera is equipped with a lock mechanism for the cartridge cover for permitting or inhibiting the release of the lock of the cartridge cover based on the display position of the VEI of the cartridge. SOLUTION: This camera is composed of a motor for carrying film FM, a motor driving circuit B2 driving the motor FM, a brake circuit B3 constituting the rheostatic brake of the motor FM, a three-terminal switch SHC switching and connecting the circuit B2 or B3 to a power source V1, a switch SVE turned off when the display position of the VEI of the cartridge shows that photographing is finished, a switch SFK turned on when the film is detected on film carrying, and MOS FET QS turned on/off by the switch SFK and a CR timer (capacitor CT and resistance RT).
