PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely discern whether a current water level of a swelling river is in a safety zone, a warning zone, or a dangerous zone of a flood from a remote position without requiring close visual observation. SOLUTION: This water gauge is constructed of a transparent cylindrical body 11, which is fixed vertically along the slant of a river revetment slope 10 and allows the river water to enter the inside from the lower end, and an elevating body 21 provided with a float 22 and housed movably upward/ downward on the inside of the cylindrical body 11 so as to be lifted/lowered by the water entering the inside of the cylindrical body. The cylindrical body 11 is provided with a plurality of area indicators 11a, 11b, 11c showing the level of the water entering its inside is in the dangerous zone, the warning zone, or the safety zone, while a power source 24 and a light source 23 connected to the light source to be turned on are mounted in the elevating body.
