PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform split injection of a fuel in a diesel engine without impairing combustion stability. SOLUTION: In the injection of a fuel near the top dead center of a cylinder in compression strokes it is split into plurality of times by a fuel injection valve 5 for keeping on combustion with fuel injection but if an engine is estimated to be low in-cylinder temperature condition, the split injection form of the fuel is changed or is injected in a lump, instead of split injection, so that an injection finishing time is made earlier than in the case that it is estimated to be in a high temperature condition.
