PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment having an excellent hue and a large molecular extinction coefficient, a pigment-forming coupler which gives the pigment, and a silver halide photographic photosensitive material which excels in image quality. SOLUTION: The color-forming coupler is represented by the formula (wherein EWG is an electron attracting group having a Hammett's substituent constantσp of 0-0. 7; Y is -SO2- or -CO-; Z is an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, a cycloalkenyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, an alkoxy group, an alkylamino group or an arylamino group; Lv is an eliminable group; and R1 is an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, a cycloalkenyl group or an aryl group). The pigment can be obtained from the coupler, and the silver halide photographic photosensitive material contains at least one kind of the above coupler.
