The seat element (2) has an upholstered seat surface connected to a fixed frame (1) with seat springs (4,5). At least one planar, horizontal strain gauge is fixed to at least one rectangular leaf spring (3,6) connected to the frame or a part fixed to it. The strain gauges generate a loading signal, whenever a load or person is on the seat. Preferably, the strain gauges are fixed near the fixing point of the leaf springs.
