PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method where an opening size which precisely expresses a particle size, capable of actually passing a sieve can be measured with high accuracy by a simple and easy operation. SOLUTION: In the method, the opening size of the sieve, having an opening size of 0.2 to 50μm is measured, the maximum particle size of a powder whose particle size distribution satisfies conditions (a) to (c), is classified by the sieve and which passes the sieve under the conditions (a) that its 10% size be larger than the opening size of an estimated sieve, (b) that its 90% size be smaller than the opening size of the estimated sieve and (c) that the difference between the 10% size and the 90% size be set at 2μm or more is measured, and the value be defined as the opening size of the sieve.
