PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a carboxylic acid ester by removing an undesirable sulfonic acid ester by a quaternization reaction between a tertiary amine and an alkyl donor compound such as an alkyl sulfonate in a synthesis reaction of a carboxylic acid ester and not damaging performances of a sulfonic acid catalyst by the presence of quaternary ammonium. SOLUTION: This method for preparing a carboxylic acid ester by a direct reaction between a carboxylic acid and an alcohol catalyzed by a sulfonic acid (R-SO3H) is carried out in the presence of a solid containing a tertiary amine functional group. The solid is a polyvinylpyridine or a resin of a styrene/ divinylbenzene, a polystyrene or a phenol/formaldehyde type, the amount of the solid is 0.01-20%, preferably 0.1-5% based on the weight of the reaction mixture, the sulfonic acid is methanesulfonic acid, the carboxylic acid is acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, heptanoic acid or stearic acid, the alcohol is isopropanol, 2-ethylhexanol, diisopropylene glycol, diisobutylene glycol, a polyethylene glycol or trimethylolpropane in the method.
