PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion regulating device for a paper guide member whereby the paper guide member can be simply set to a frame without requiring additional parts such as a leaf spring, etc., and the paper guide member once set is regulated not to move in any of forward, backward, upward and downward directions, and an ink jet printer with the device. SOLUTION: The paper guide member 35 for regulating a paper gap is set by this device in a manner to be regulated not to move to the frame 7 of the recording apparatus. A projecting part 55 for engagement is set to at least one end part of the paper guide member 35, and a receiving part 75 for engagement is formed at the frame 7. After inserted into the receiving part 75 from an insertion direction, the projecting part 55 is regulated not to move in a back-forth direction and in an up-down direction by being slid in a slide direction (Y, -Y direction) different from any of the insertion direction, the back- forth direction and the up-down direction.
