PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which useless power consumption can be suppressed at the interface section. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a CPU 31 for controlling the entire operation of the printer, an ROM 32 storing a control program and various data, an RAM 33 being used as the work area or print buffer of the CPU 31 and storing various data temporarily, and an ASIC. A power supply control circuit 42 provided in the ASIC comprises a section 48 for switching an AC power supply 50, a battery 51 and a USB power supply 52 from an external computer 2, and a section 49 for detecting a working power supply with peak current limit switched at the switching section 48. When a power supply with peak current limit is used, data is transferred at a communication rate equal to one half of the maximum communication rate of a USB interface.
