PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial method of producing an aromatic polycarbonate by melt polycondensing process having excellent color and less discoloration and molecular weight degradation even at a high temperature exceeding 380 deg.C. SOLUTION: The method of producing an aromatic polycarbonate comprises polymerization in melt state of an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a diarly carbonate, wherein the diaryl carbonate contains (a) 200 wt.ppm or less of water, (b) 1 wt.ppm or less of titanium and (c) 1 wt.ppm or less of p- phenoxyphenyl phenyl carbonate.
