PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original cover for an image reader which is capable of pressing a thick original with a simple constitution and is capable of securely pressing the original even during a longitudinally placing scanning. SOLUTION: This device has the original cover 12 which covers the original placed on an original platen and hinge members 13 which are freely turnably supported at one end on the original cover 12, are mounted at the other end on the original platen and are freely turnably supported.
