PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine and a possible excavation distance estimating method thereof, allowing the abrasion wear and possible excavation distance of a bit to be adequately estimated at an arbitrary place in the course of excavation without causing a marked increase in cost. SOLUTION: The shield machine 1 is provided with a cutting-face collapse investigating device 25 for measuring the amount D of clearance generated due to the separation of the crown of a tunnel pit A and the outer periphery of a cutter disk 10. A control part for controlling the shield machine 1 is provided with a possible excavation distance estimating part for estimating the possible excavation distance of the shield machine 1 by conducting the statistical treatment of the amount D of clearance, which is measured with the device 25. |
