PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of an epoxy resin which scarcely discharges waste water containing nitrogen and sulfur compound during the production, and etherifying an epoxy resin containing secondary hydroxyl group, and to provide the new expoxy resind improving heat resistance, an adhesive property, mechanical strength, toughness, waster resistance in comparison with a conventional epoxy resin, as well as little coloring, and capable of using for the application in which an appearance is important. SOLUTION: The epoxy reins is produced by glycidyl etherifying of the secondary alcoholic hydroxyl group of an epoxy resin by using epichlorohydrin and alkaline metals or alkaline earth metals in the presence of a tertiary alcohol, if necessary by using a phase transfer catalyst.
