PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid detergent for dish or dishwasher of high product stability that shows excellent detergency against oily dirt with no anxiety that inorganic scales stick to and remain on the dish and the dishwasher. SOLUTION: The liquid detergent for dishwasher according to this invention comprises 30-40 wt.% of sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide in total (where <=10 wt.% sodium hydroxide), 2-8 wt.% of sodium silicate where the molar ratio of SiO2:Na2O is 1.7-2.5:1.0 and 2-7 wt.% of a water-soluble polymeric chelating agent wherein the sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium silicate and the water-soluble polymeric chelating agent are included so that the weight ratio of the total of the sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide to the sodium silicate may be 32-45 wt.% and the weight ratio of the sodium silicate to the water-soluble polymeric chelating agent may be 0.5-1.5:1.0.
