PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color photographic material capable of attaining high color density, using inexpensive compounds and giving steep gradient for gradation. SOLUTION: The color photographic material includes a base and at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer, contains at least one color coupler associated with the layer, and also contains at least one compound of the formula R1-SO2-NH-CO-R2 (I) [where R1 and R2 are each an organic group and the N atom may be deprotonated]. The compound I is substantially colorless and will not form colored compounds through coupling during the processing of the material. The material is supedior by virtue of the gradation of steep gradient and obtains high degree of color density using inexpensive compounds.
