PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent flopping of a timing chain and to prevent output loss of the engine by applying favorable tension throughout a low loaded state to a high loaded state by an engine. SOLUTION: In this tensioner 1, a pair of shaft members 3 and 4 engaged by screw parts 7 and 8 and a torsion spring 5 rotatively energizing at least one shaft member 3 are inserted inside a case 2 and the other shaft member 4 is propelled by energizing force of the torsion spring 5. A hydraulic means is provided applying oil pressure in the same direction as a propelled direction of the other shaft member 4 to a load inputted in the other shaft member 4.
