PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound capable of readily controlling the orientation tilt angle of a liquid crystalline compound. SOLUTION: A new compound prepared by binding a pyridinium ring substituted with an aliphatic-substituted amino group to a tripheylene ring with a bivalent connecting group is used.
