PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize smooth microscopic operation by detecting the number of changeover steps of an exchanged optical element unit without the need for adding any change at all to a control function even when the number of changeover steps is changed by exchanging an optical element changeover unit with respect to a microscopic body. SOLUTION: This device has an optical element changeover means 11 which holds the plural optical elements and selectively arranges the prescribed optical elements in an optical path by rotational movement, a drive means 30-1 which rotates the optical element changeover mechanism, positioning means 11-3 to 6 and 30-3 which position the selected optical elements so as to stop the same in the prescribed positions on the optical path and origin detecting means 11-2 and 30-2 for detecting the origin of the optical element changeover means 11.
