<p>A door latching mechanism comprises two oppositely-directed, vertically-slideable push rods (16, 17) adapted to engage with the top and bottom of a door frame, and a main latch member (21) adapted to engage with a keeper on the side of the door frame. A push rod actuating assembly (1) comprises an actuating assembly housing (3, 4) with first and second gear pinions (31, 32) meshed with vertically slideable oppositely-directed push rod bars (11, 12) connected to the push rods. The pinions are meshed with respective racks (26, 26') provided on opposite sides of a slider (18) which is engaged by the main latch member (21) whereby on release of the main latch member from the keeper, the slider (18) is moved to draw the push rods (16, 17) towards one another. A spring (34) acting between the pinions biases the rods to the engaged position.</p> |
