PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the laying method of a tatami mat, in which tatami-mat manufacture and laying based on taking size at a site in a manufacturized produced residence are disused and construction cost can be reduced by simplify ing construction management because construction cost is increased and construc tion management is complicated owing to the execution of taking size at the site, tatami-mat manufacture on the basis of the size and laying and execution after fine adjustment at the site for a second time since openings are formed and the tatami mat cannot be laid by too large size only by laying the manufac tured tatami mat as it is on account of the skill of a builder and the dispersion of the size of materials actually even in the manufacturized residence in the case of the laying of the tatami mat. SOLUTION: A slender crossbar between the tatami mat and a wall composed of a cushioning material having compressive strength from 637 Pa to 12739 Pa is interposed between the tatami mat and the wall in at least a part, and openings between the wall and the tatami mat are absorbed by the compression of the cushioning material in the case of the laying of the tatami mat in the laying works of the tatami mat.
