PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chucking mechanism capable of pulling out extremely easily a pile such as a pipe driven in ground althrough the constitution is quite simple. SOLUTION: The chuck 22 is constituted of an inverted L-shaped chuck body 38, a joint pin 41 inserted in a portion near to the upper opened end of the chuck body 38 to fix the chuck body 38, a shackle 44 to which a chain 18 from a hoist 20 is fitted, and arc-shaped first jaw 46 and second jaw 48. The first jaw 46 and the second jaw 48 are arranged in the circumferential direction at a desired distance. A plurality of set screws 50 retractably extending in the radial inward direction are provided. After a pile 12 is positioned inside the first jaw 46 and the second jaw 48 facing each other with a level difference, respective set screws 50 are advanced to chuck the outer periphery of the pile 12.
