PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably produce a porous metal sintered body reduced in remaining carbon content. SOLUTION: The porous metal sintered body is produced by molding, in a prescribed form, a slurry comprising fine metal particles, a high boiling point solvent preferably having the boiling point of above 100 deg.C and a resin in an amount of less than 5 wt.% based on the total weight of fine metal particles, and then sintering the molded body in vacuum or inert atmosphere. In this case, the surface of the molded body is kept in a wet condition during the process in which an external breaking force may act on the molded body until the sintering operation is started after molding.
