In a process for manufacturing components in biopolymers: a) the base materials are compressed and plasticised in an injection unit; b) a tool cavity is filled with compressed gas whose pressure is similar to that in the material in the injection unit; c) the material is injected rapidly to uniformly fill the tool cavity and the cavity is evacuated during or immediately after injection to effect foaming of the material. A mould for the process comprises upper (1) and lower (2) parts with a gas tight parting plane between them and also between the injection channel and nozzle. The cavity (7) walls permeable to gas. A compressor(13) connects with the tool (1,2) to pressurise the cavity (7). Bores in the tool have a diameter which allows rapid cavity evacuation, the gas being evacuated via an electrically controlled rapid venting valve(15).. |
