PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector having high resolution and capable of displaying a full color picture by easily changing the mixture system of three primary colors R, G and B or the mixture system of four or more colors having high color tone reproducibility by adding colors to the three primary colors in order to improve the color tone reproducibility. SOLUTION: This projector is constituted of a spatial modulation element 10 and a diffraction grating color filter 20 provided on the illuminating light input side of the element 10 and diffracting and spectrally separating light, and displays the picture by modulating the spatial intensity of the illuminating light by the element 10 and projecting the light by a projection lens 40. In the projector, a diffraction grating is arranged on an optical path near the element 10, and an aperture part 50 through which light in a necessary wavelength region is transmitted by cutting a light beam in an unnecessary wavelength region is arranged between the lens 40 and a projection screen 60, and the aperture part 50 is mechanically or electronically controlled. |
