PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording method in which rewrite can be carried out with high sensitivity and on-off display can be favorably carried out, and also can be driven by a compact and low cost power source, and further color display can be carried out, and to provide an optical writing recording medium and a display device and a writing device to be used for this recording method. SOLUTION: The recording method, optical writing type recording medium to be used for the same, the display device, and writing device, characterized in controlling the display by applying a voltage to the optical writing/recording medium having optical switching elements and display elements of which resistance component is controllable according to at least the directionality of the applied voltage, controlling a ratio of the resistance component due to the directionality of the voltage applied to the optical switching elements, and controlling an electric charge storage amount to the display elements.
