PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble etherase specifically and reductively cleaving an arylglycerol-β-aryl ether type bond which is a main bond between units of lignin, method for producing the above etherase and a microorganism producing the above etherase. SOLUTION: A microorganism producing a water-soluble etherase having activity specifically and reductively cleaving arylglycerol-β-aryl ether type bond is cultured and the water-soluble etherase is collected from the cultured products.
