DRIVING UNIT FOR WHEELCHAIR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving unit for a wheelchair which is excellent in traveling stability and gentle to a user who is weak in his/her lower body. SOLUTION: The driving unit 10 is freely attachably and detachably fitted between a front wheel C5 and a rear wheel C6 in a dead space under the seat C2 of a wheelchair C. The centroid of the unit 10 is positioned to be lower than a rear wheel by mounting it to a lower-side pipe frame F2. The motor unit 14 of the unit 10 is supported by only the supporting shaft 20 of the bracket 22 and is freely swingable with respect to a base frame 12. When a lever 34 is stood up, a rod 32 moves forward and a pressurizing tool 16 stands up the bracket 22 with the shaft 22 in a center to press a roller 28 to the peripheral surface of the tire of a rear wheel C6. When the lever 34 is laid down, the bracket 22 is tilted by the gravity of a motor 24 and a decelerator 26 around the shaft 20 and the roller 28 is moved away from the peripheral surface of the tire of the wheel C6.
