PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spot welding method and its apparatus capable of performing spot welding with a suitable pressing force applied to a welding portion. SOLUTION: The method and the apparatus has a feature capable of welding a work with a pressing force applied to the work during welding between a first electrode and a second electrode. The first electrode mounted on a welding gun shaft is brought into with one side of the work by moving a spot welding gun with its traveling means 7, then the second electrode mounted on a gun arm is driven by the traveling means 7 to bring it into pressure contact with the other side of the work so that the second electrode travels to a target pressing position in reference to the contact point of the first electrode. The first electrode mounted on the gun shaft is driven by a pressing means 1 so that the first electrode is held at the contact position.
