An electrically-powered, liquid-heating vessel comprises a main body part 1 having an open bottom and a widened portion 7, an annular part 4 which encircles the main part 1 and has been moved down it until a portion 9 of the annular part 4 abuts against the widened portion 7, a planar heating element 3 disposed just beneath the open bottom of part 1 and a bottom closure 5 secured to the annular part 4 and serving to hold the heating element 3 in place. Main body part 1 may be of glass and a seal 2 may be disposed between the heating element 3 and the bottom of the glass body. Closure 5 may support the element 3 either indirectly through a control unit 6 or directly by means of pillars (12, Figure 4).
