759,079. Extruding rubber &c. tubes. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. April 5, 1954 [Dec. 11, 1953], No. 9885/54. Class 87(2) The mandrel 22 that co - operates with the die 4 to form the annular extrusion orifice is mounted on a shaft 18 that extends forwardly from a strainer plate 12; this arrangement obviates the need for a spider to support the mandrel. As shown, the shaft is integral with the strainer plate. The rear of the strainer plate has a bulbous portion 17 that fits into a socket 9 formed in a wiper 7 secured to the screw 6. One or more screens 11 may be fitted to the rear of the strainer plate. The shaft 18 is heated by steam passing through inlet 15, Fig. 3, to a chamber C ,Fig. 2, in the shaft, this chamber containing a (stationary) worm 19; condensate escapes through passage 44. The strainer plate is secured to a head 3, this head being clamped to an adapter 2 by two semi-circular shoes 27, 28. The adapter is secured to the screw extrusion barrel 1. Soapstone is fed to an inlet 21, Fig. 1, and thence through a conduit 20 into the extruded tube. The head 3 is heated by steam entering at 37, condensate leaving at 43. The die is adjustable by means of nuts 35.
|
