PURPOSE: A user authentication system and method is provided to identify a user by detecting the current of his body. CONSTITUTION: A user authentication system is comprised of an identification unit(200) and a control unit(250). An up switch(202) and a down switch(204) to input a user's password are formed at a side of the upper part of the identification unit(200). A display panel(206) to display input states for the up/down switches(202,204) and the operation state of the identification unit(200) is formed at the upper part of the identification unit(200). A power switch(208) to turn on or off the power is formed at a side of the central part of the identification unit(200). A power state indication part(210), formed at the lower part of the power switch(208), indicates a power state according to the operation of the power switch(208). A scanning sensor part(212), formed at the central part of the identification unit(200), scans the user's fingerprint and current based on the contact of a finger. A hinged cover(214) protects the scanning sensor part(212), the power switch(208) and the power state indication part(210). The control unit(250) to control the identification unit(200) comprises a memory to store authenticated user fingerprint information and current information.
