PURPOSE: A pole change motor is provided to achieve an improved operating efficiency of the motor by connecting a compensation coil in serial to the main coil, while reducing power consumption and noise. CONSTITUTION: A pole change motor comprises a rotor; a stator including first to fourth main coils(M1 to M4) which operate in two or four poles and generate a starting torque for the rotor, and first and second main compensation coils(MC1,MC2) connected in serial to first to fourth main coils so as to compensate for the abnormality of magnetic field between adjacent coils of the same polarity, from among first to fourth main coils, during operation in two poles; and a relay unit(12) for converting the polarity of first to fourth main coils into two or four poles, and switching the connection state of first and second main compensation coils.
