LCD USING SWINGING COMMON ELECTRODE AND METHOD FOR DRIVING THE SAME

PURPOSE: An LCD using a swinging common electrode and a method for driving the same are provided to improve the response speed by generating an overshoot by swinging an independent wire of the common electrode with a certain period synchronizing with a gate pulse. CONSTITUTION: A voltage applied to a pixel is swung by swing a common electrode voltage. At this time, a value of mean voltage(Vp) applied to the pixel is obtained by using a predetermined mathematical expression. A response speed of LCD is improved when the voltage applied to the common electrode satisfies the following three conditions. First, the common electrode voltage finishes as (-) at the gate-on time when the pixel voltage is changed from (-) to (+). Second, the common electrode voltage finishes as (+) at the gate-on time when the pixel voltage is changed from (+) to (-). Third, the comon electrode voltage swings between (-) and (+) repeatedly after the gate is closed.
