PURPOSE: To provide liquid crystal display technology which eliminates deterioration in spectral characteristics of a color filter even when TFTs and color filters are formed on the same substrate and an inorganic insulating film is used as a wiring protection film. CONSTITUTION: On one of a couple of substrates between which liquid crystal is sandwiched, switching elements which are arrayed in matrix, the wiring part of the switching elements, pixel electrodes, and a color filter layer which is formed between the pixel electrodes and an inorganic insulating layer for covering the wiring part of the switching elements, equipped with a lower light- transmissive flattening layer and a primary-color coloring pattern, and provided with an opening where the connection parts between the wiring part of the switching elements and pixel electrodes pass are formed.
