Friction joint for latch of a window sash or sliding door

A single point fastener for latching a window or a door in a closed position is disclosed. A friction joint coupling comprising of a base (10) and a latch body (19) such that relative rotational movement can occur between them, the coupling being achieved by a headed fastening means (28). The friction joint includes a sleeve (27) to which an end load is applied upon an axial movement of the fastening means (28) taking place during coupling of the base (10) and the latch body (19), such end load causing the sleeve (27) to collapse. The full latched and full release position of the hook shaped latch element (20) is governed by the movement of the projection (22) in the channel (17). The projection (22) on the upper flat surface engages in a curved groove (36) in the opposite surface of the disc element (23).
