CELL COPYING APPARATUS AND METHOD OF ATM(ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE) SYSTEM WITH UTOPIA INTERFACE

PURPOSE: A cell copying apparatus and method of ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) system with utopia interface is provided to copy a cell when transferring cells between nodes, save a system resource, and support an operation of such a block requiring a duplexing operation in real time. CONSTITUTION: An address extracting portion(110) receives an input cell stream to extract the virtual path identifier/virtual channel identifier(VPI/VCI) from a heater comprised in the input cell stream. The address extracting portion(110) outputs the extracted VPI/VCI as an address for accessing a memory(120). The memory(120) has a set of addresses, and a destination port value is correspondingly stored in each address of the set. A cell transfer part(130) receives a destination port value stored corresponding to an address from the memory(120), copies a cell, and transfers the copied cell to a slave board assigned by the received destination port value. The input cell can be transferred to at least two slave boards through the cell copy operation of the cell transfer portion.
