The ice or roller skate comprises a shoe(3) which has front (8) and rear (9) seatings in its sole. Each of these contains at least two internally threaded holes (11 -13, 21 - 23), the holes in both seatings being separated by the same gap (x). A frame (2) for mounting the skate has flat front (6) and rear (7) surfaces with at least two slots, the slots on both surfaces being separated from each other by the same gap, (y), which is different from that between the holes.. This allows the mounting to be fastened to the sole of the shoe by bolts (51, 52) which fit through the slots and into the threaded holes.
