摘要 PURPOSE: A structure of a motion estimator for low-transmission-rate image communication is provided, which satisfies characteristic and transmission rate of an image while reducing hardware capacity, and optimizes the performance of the motion estimator by selectively applying a search method suitable for characteristic of low-transmission-rate image or performance of an encoder. CONSTITUTION: A previous frame storage(100) stores search window data of a current macro block in a previous frame memory. A current frame storage(200) stores current macro block data for finding a motion vector in a current frame memory. A multiplexer(300) multiplexes the previous search window data and current macro block data. Data processors(400) calculate mean absolute error values of motion vectors using the previous search window data and current macro block data transmitted from the multiplexer. A comparator(500) compares the mean absolute values of the motion vectors to detect a motion vector having the smallest mean absolute value. A status controller(600) controls the operation of each of the above-mentioned components.
