MICROBES IMMOBILIZED CARTRIDGE TYPE BIOFILTER FOR ODORANTS AND VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS REMOVAL

PURPOSE: A cartridge type biofilter for odorants and volatile organic compounds removal is provided to shorten accommodation time of microbes and prevent excessive growth of microbes, a main cause for media clogging. CONSTITUTION: Air bearing odorant and VOCs is introduced into biofilters(2) by a blower(1). Odorant and VOCs are decomposed while passing through biofilters by immobilized microbes on cartridge(3). Especially, non-biodegradable odorants such as VOCs are treated in secondary facilities of an aeration tank(9) and an anoxic tank(10). Regardless of the sort of odorants, moisture content of the biofilters is automatically controlled by a moisture detector(5) equipped in the cartridge. Also, excess moisture is condensed and stored in a water tank(6) installed at lower part of the biofilter, and automatically drained when the water tank level is over predetermined water level. Residual odorants that would not decomposed in biofilters are introduced into secondary treatment facilities. These odorants are completely eliminated as passing through the aeration tank, the anoxic tank and a final clarifier(11), which are designed to maximize contact time.
