A dosing valve for fitting to the pipeline has a conical sealing element fitted with sealing O-rings locating into a conical valve seat. The valve is operated by a plunger shaft driven by a servo cylinder via a link which provides a dead spot and which holds the valve in the closed position without servo force. This ensures a failsafe closed setting of the valve. The end of the valve element is profiled to fit into the contour of the pipeline so as not to provide an obstacle for the pipeline cleaning system. The O-ring seals provide effective sealing in either direction.
