PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high picture quality of high resolution and a high dynamic range for a display device composing a display picture plane from the light transmitted or reflected by a light modulating element by emitting light generated by a light source to the light modulating element. SOLUTION: The high picture quality is realized by configuring the display device and video signal processor so that an emitting light quantity is controlled; then the display signal is temporarily stored; the signal adjustment is carried out in an analog state; a variation rate of the light quantity at the time of increasing is made different from that at the time of decreasing; and a light quantity control is performed in a hysteretic way.
