PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and easily measure the deformation characteristic of a ground material on site. SOLUTION: A lightweight, hard ball is used and caused to fall freely and the time of contact between the ball and the ground material is measured whereby the deformation characteristic of the ground material is measured.
