<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method by which recording/reproduction by the SDL method is realized by changing a control driving method without setting up more heads to a tape streamer utilizing the SD method. SOLUTION: The head is changed over by a head changeover signal for every half period of a signal DPG for detecting the head position with the rotation of a drum, without adding any head to the tape streamer utilizing the SD method, and the head is driven by the edges of a first track data changeover signal TDP1 and a second track data changeover signal TDP2 lagging by 90 deg. from the above signal. Then, the recording/reproducing operation by the SDL method is independently performed on the upper and lower half surfaces of a magnetic tape 1 to realize the extension of the recording/reproducing time twice the case of SD method, and when the lower half surface of the magnetic tape 1 is being played back, the reproducing operation of the head on the upper half surface of the magnetic tape is invalidated, and when the upper half surface of the magnetic tape 1 is being played back, the reproducing operation of the head on the lower half surface of the magnetic tape is invalidated. Thus overwrite of the information of the upper half surface of the magnetic tape 1 on the lower half surface or overwrite of the information of the lower half surface on the upper half surface is prevented.</p> |
