A method for de-icing fluid ducts has a cylindrical elastic insert placed inside the duct and leaving a central duct (17) for the fluid. The insert is hollow with fluid filled spaces connected to a variable pressure supply. This can be a pulsating supply either at positive of negative pressure. The length and size of the insert is selected to meet the requirements for de-icing. The trapped spaces are connected to each other and to the variable pressure. The variable pressure causes the insert to flex and thereby dislodge any ice coating of the insert.
