A method and apparatus for enhancing applause at a public event is described. The invention acts as a container for food or beverages, and once the food or beverage is consumed may be converted into an apparatus to enhance an applause or boo. One embodiment is an apparatus for holding a beverage container (10), which has a top, a bottom (131), and at least two sidewall sections (133, 134) which may selectively detached and assembled with matching components. The device may be adjustable to accommodate containers of different sizes and shapes. By detaching the sidewall sections in at least one place the sidewall sections may be opened and closed. When the sidewall sections are closed upon one another they hit to make an audible sound.
