PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic conversion element, a thin-film magnetic head, and manufacturing method of them for thermal stability and a large exchange coupling magnetic field. SOLUTION: An MR element comprises a laminate 20 where there are laminated, in sequence, an underlying layer 21, a crystal growth suppressing layer 22, a first soft-magnetic layer 23, a second soft-magnetic layer 24, an antimagnetic layer 25, a ferromagnetic layer 26, an antiferromagnetic layer 27, and a protective layer 28. The ferromagnetic layer 26 comprises, from the side of antimagnetic layer 25, a ferromagnetic inside layer 26a, a coupling layer 26b and a ferromagnetic outside layer 26c. Related to the crystal growth suppressing layer 22, by suppressing crystal growth of a layer formed over it, an average in-plane particle size of the ferromagnetic inside layer 26a comes to be 3-8 nm, resulting in flattened interface of the coupling layer 26b. |
