PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winding machine capable of attaining normal winding, even at the outer-periphery section of a pole. SOLUTION: A side guide 8 is formed movably at a former base in the axial direction of a spindle serving as the rotating shaft of a flyer. When the opening/ closing operating surface 7b of a former guide 7 abuts against a collar 30, the guide surface 7a of the former guide 7 meets the guiding surface 8b of the side guide 8. As a winding proceeds, the former guide 7 opens by the abutment of the opening/closing operating surface 7b of the former guide 7 against the collar 30. However, a wire member W trying to enter the clearance is guided by the guiding surface 8b of the side guide 8 to an appropriate position where the wire member W is capable of normal winding. As a result, the wire member W can be controlled properly, while preventing it from entering the clearance formed, when the former guide 7 opens. Normal winding can thus be attained, even in the vicinity of the collar 30.
