The invention relates to a cable window lift for vehicles. Said lift is used for lifting and lowering a window pane. The cable window lift comprises a drive for a cable drum which is wound round by a cable pull. A gearbox (15) is connected between the drive and the cable drum and is designed as double screw gear or double worm gear. The wheels (1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 10) of at least one intermeshing wheel pair (16) are provided with a double and opposed toothing (17, 18). The inventive gearboxes are characterised by high effectiveness and self-locking.
