PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device made smaller in the thickness and the width of a set than those of a conventional device, regarding magneto-optical recording/reproducing device switched between a recording state set by bringing a magnetic head close to a disk, and a reproducing state set by separating the magnetic head from the disk. SOLUTION: The magneto-optical recording/reproducing device is provided with a brushless motor 2 for vertically moving a magnetic head 19a on the upper part of a cartridge holder 1, and a series of gears 3, 7 and 8 connected to the brushless motor 2 and a connecting laver 16. Thus, since an elevating motor is removed from the lower part of a chassis 26, and the connecting lever is prevented from passing through a side face, the thickness and the width of a setting size are reduced.
