PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerating apparatus, capable of continuing operation under an operating condition lower than the overload operation limit value of a compressor or the refrigerating device even under an overloaded operation. SOLUTION: The refrigerating apparatus equipped with a gas/liquid heat exchanger for effecting heat exchange between high-pressure liquid refrigerant from the compressor and low-pressure gas refrigerant from an evaporator, is constituted of a liquid refrigerant bypass circuit for bypassing the high- pressure liquid refrigerant through the gas/liquid heat exchanger, a liquid refrigerant bypass opening and closing valve provided in the liquid bypass circuit and an opening and closing control means for the liquid refrigerant bypass opening and closing valve. The liquid refrigerant bypass opening and closing valve is opened by the control means of the liquid refrigerant bypass opening and closing valve, to bypass the liquid refrigerant through the gas/liquid heat exchanger and restrict the operating high pressure or low pressure of the refrigerating device, so as to be less than the overload operation limit value by reducing the overcooling degree of the liquid refrigerant, whereby the overload operation of the refrigerating device is prevented.
